Geometry Term Edges

 

In geometry, the polygons are formed by two or more line segments, these line segments are called edges, and it’s a geometry term. In closed broken line the two vertex of line segment is also known as the geometry term edges. Only the two point of line segment is not an edge. Geometry term edges are appeared in the three dimensional figures or solid figures.

  

Examples for Geometry Term Edges:

Example 1:

  In geometry, show the term edges and find the total number of edges of the following figures.

Solution:

Given:

Polygon ABCDEFGH.

To identify the geometry term edges of given polygons:

 The polygon ABCDEFGH contain the following edges, such as

1. line segment AB is one of the edges of the given polygons.                             

2. line segment BC.

3. line segment CD.

4. line segment DE.

5. line segment EF.

6. line segment FG.

7. line segment GH.

Therefore, the polygon ABCDEFGH totally have the seven (7) edges.

Example 2:

    Show the geometry term edges in the a polyhedron.

Solution:

    In geometry, the polyhedron angle OABCDE is formed by several planes (faces) having a single common point (the vertex) and successively intersecting along straight lines OA, OB, . . . , OE (the edges).

Determine the number of term edges of the following five regular polyhedrons such as,

  1. Tetrahedron
  2. Cube
  3. Cube Octahedron
  4. Dodecahedron
  5. Icosahedron

 

To find the number of term edges:

          1. The Tetrahedron has the six (6) edges.
          2. The Cube has the twelve (12) edges.
          3. The Octahedron has the 12 edges.
          4. The Dodecahedron has the  30 edges.
          5. The Icosahedron has the 30 edges.

Example 4:

Show the edges and also find the total number of edges in figure below.

Prism ABCDEFGHIJKL.

  

To identify the geometry term edges of given polygons:

The prism ABCDEFGHIJKL contain the following edges, such as

The bottom face of prism has 6 line segments AB, BC, CD, DE, EF, and FA.

The top face of prism has 6 line segments GH, HI, IJ, JK, KL and LG.

and the middle of prism has the 6 edges AG, BH, CI, DJ, EK, and FL.

Therefore, the prism ABCDEFGHIJKL totally have the 18 (6+6+6) edges.
